Sam Johnson is a forward thinking entrepreneur involved in projects that bridge generations, connect communities and put purpose alongside profit. He is most well known for creating the Student Volunteer Army, for his work with volunteer and disaster risk groups around the world and his new company, We Visit.
Sam has proudly shared the SVA Leadership model in over 13 countries, largely in disaster zones including Japan, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, Vanuatu, Mongolia, the UK and USA. From board rooms to executive leadership teams to foundations and youth groups, the SVA story reminds people of the power in building movements, not empires.
This year Sam shifted his sights away from disasters and became the catalyst behind Serve For New Zealand – a campaign that furthers the SVA movement by mobilising citizens to volunteer on public holidays. With the support of Prince Harry, Sam and
the SVA partnered with the Royal New Zealand Returned Services Association and the University of Canterbury to mobilise 6500 hours of volunteering on Anzac Day.
Awarded Young New Zealander of Year for his leadership, Communicator of the Year for his honest media commentary and a Sir Peter Blake Leadership Award to remind him never to rest on success, in Sam’s world, there is no moment worth missing out on. Since the earthquakes, Sam Johnson has been privileged to speak at 500+ events all around the world.
