The Wellington Club, 88 The Terrace, Wellington

The Wellington Club

The Club is New Zealand's largest residential Club. Founded in December 1841, it now owns an elegant seven-storey building on the same Terrace site as the previous two Clubhouses. The present building was opened in February 1990 by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, who is an Honorary member of the Club.

The New Zealand native Pohutukawa tree that stands proud at the front of the Clubhouse is a famous Wellington landmark. Thought to have been planted in 1895 by Martin Chapman KC, one of New Zealand's first King's Counsels and President of the Club in 1912.
